Ketchikan and the LumberJacks!

We arrived in Ketchikan on a gloomy overcast morning...but that's ok, we are here for fun!

The dock off our boat...is that a bear waving at us??

Since we docked later than usual {around 10 a.m.} we made good use of our balcony...

We walked through town to explore and schedule fun for the day.
First, we bumped into BIGFOOT!

Then, we almost lost Ava to a lumberjack~

Of course, there MUST be a fish house in Alaska, right?

Learned that Ketchikan was the first city in Alaska.

Decided that maybe I should never again complain about the rain...

With MORE daylight hours, I guess everything is bigger?

Grandpa and Daddy found a float plane to ride. Grandma, Mommy and Ava found a bus tour of the city and surrounding areas. We were able to see some of the wildlife...Bald Eagles and a playful otter! We looked for whales but no luck this day. Our driver was an avid fisherwoman, between fishing and her garden she lives almost completely off the land!

A quick snack...after a later than normal breakfast...Disney provides well, eh?

See? Those are HUGE dandelions...almost to Ava's waist.

Our bus took us to a totem ground/tribal house. The diver was a member of this tribe, with a LONG heritage to this land. She was very informative and shared many tidbits of history with us.

One of the big tourist attractions at Ketchikan was the LumberJack show. It was so silly and Ava LOVED every minute of it :)

Really, Really, Really, Really LOUD chainsaws!

They literally threw axes at the bullseye...

We learned that they cut notches in trees for boards to lock into so they don't have to balance on a ladder. I suppose keeping up with a ladder in the forrest could be cumbersome.

After the show we walked over to the historic 'red light' district... Creek Street.
